ARCHIVE NOTE: You can find the interview referenced below between myself and Janice Harris Lindstrom here:
Hello everyone and welcome February!
A short post today: since last week’s announcement, Loopy Stanley has been sent to 3 MT-BC’s – coming soon you’ll hear everything from an oboe to the human voice joining in with the original loop created at the ND School for the Deaf. Still want in? Just discovering the project now? It’s not too late! Feb 3rd at 11am central time (noon eastern) I’ll be talking with Janice Lindstrom on her Music Therapy Radio Show about the project and what you can do to be a part of it. The final product won’t be released until the end of the month, so there’s plenty of time – The more the merrier!
Recently, an artist on NBC announced something very similar to our project. You can check that out here. What excites me so much about projects like this is the collaborative aspect: connecting with others around the country, even around the world, through a love of music. I encourage you this week to engage in something collaboratively, music or otherwise. Tune in to your fellow human beings and see what you can make together! Here are some local opportunities for you to do this if you’re in the Grand Forks area:
Today: join the Loopy Stanley project! (sorry, couldn’t resist getting one more plug in there, I’m just so excited about this!)
Feb 10th: come to the Cabaret! – Bernie & Natasha’s Musical Bungalow – at the Firehall Theatre, 8pm. Tickets $5 for this Valentine’s themed show featuring my husband and I, with a few friends doing everything from original songs on Guitar to arrangements of pop songs on boomwhackers and a Burlesque performance by Madame Mercury! Looks to be a fun night indeed – may even be some audience participation, who knows (*wink!*)
Feb 11th: Shake your booty at the 12 Houses Hafla! Our next FREE, family friendly night of Bellydance will be here before you know it. 2017 Demers Ave, food at 6, dance at 7. Bellydance is great for fitness, but it’s also an ancient, beautiful art form, and a great opportunity to meet people and learn something new!
Feb 12th: if you’ve got kids, Headstart will be having a Winter Festival at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks from noon to 5pm – I will be manning a booth for Music Therapy all day and presenting on Middle Eastern Dance for Kids that afternoon at 2:30. Should be a good time!
Feb 21st: the next 12 Houses Drum Circle will be taking place. This event has grown over the past month, but there are plenty of instruments to go around! 2017 Demers Ave, starting at 7pm and going til we just can’t play anymore! Kids welcome, and you can certainly bring your own drums if you’d like.
Wherever you are, whoever you’re near, engage in some music making this week – who knows where your play will lead you!
